Majid Dari – From Unemployed to a Bus Driver and a Future Owner
26Sep’24
Majid Dari, a resident of Al-Issawiya in Jerusalem, was unemployed and faced significant obstacles in finding work within the city due to an existing security file. He is the sole provider for his family of six. Majid applied for a grant to purchase a small bus (minibus) that would enable him to work in the transportation and tourism sector, both within and outside the city. He has sufficient experience and the necessary official documents for this work, but lacks the financial means to purchase a bus given his difficult economic circumstances.
After reviewing Majid’s grant application and assessing his challenging financial situation, and considering that the cost of the bus significantly exceeds the grant limits, the organization decided to provide the grant as an initial payment towards the bus purchase. An agreement was made between Majid and the supplier to cover the remaining cost of the bus through work profits, as well as to cover all official paperwork costs, including taxes and licenses. Majid would work with the bus and use the earnings to pay these costs. Once the full cost of the bus is covered, ownership would be transferred to him.
Majid successfully achieved his project’s goal and has started generating profits that cover the monthly payments for the bus while providing additional income to cover part of his expenses. Despite the limited tourism activities and the challenging economic situation, the bus currently generates a monthly profit of 6,000 shekels. In the near future, Majid Dari will become the owner of the bus and will be able to fully support his family.
