VHO Organizes Workshop on Economic Empowerment in Northwest Jerusalem

As part of its community activities and within the framework of the FORSA Economic Empowerment Program, VHO organized an awareness workshop for women in the northwest Jerusalem region, in response to a request from local CBO representatives, particularly women’s organizations, and based on their identified needs.
This initiative is a continuation of VHO’s active role in contributing to the socio-economic development, and meeting the needs of marginalized groups in these areas, particularly women, in light of the challenging conditions caused by the measures imposed by the occupation.
The workshop focused on strengthening women resilience in the villages of northwest of Jerusalem by creating new opportunities for small income-generating projects owned by these women, which would support their families and promote social protection. It also emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment in achieve economic independence and alleviating family economic burdens.
The workshop was presided over by the organization’s chairperson, Ms. Sylvia Abu-Laban, Mr. Basim Dudeen, the General Manager of PNEEI and Ms. Ibtisam AL-Husary the Program Manager at PNEEI. Representatives from other Jerusalem-based organizations, as well as women groups, participated also in workshop. During the workshop, the obstacles and challenges faced by women, women groups and organizations were reviewed, including economic challenges that affect the establishment and sustainability of small income-generating projects. Additionally, the participants discussed the available opportunities to enhance economic empowerment efforts in northwest Jerusalem.
From their side, the women who participated in the workshop expressed their appreciation for organizing this event and highlighted its great importance, as it provided them with an opportunity to present their suggestions and initiatives for income generating projects in the area. Additionally, they emphasized that any economic empowerment efforts they receive will help alleviate their households’ financial burdens. However, they noted the importance of increasing cooperation among women’s organizations in the area and other organization that share their interest in enhancing economic empowerment and promoting resilience.
