Volunteer for Hope Organization Celebrates Olive Harvest Season with children
06Nov’19
In celebration of the olive harvest season—a national and social occasion that brings the entire family together—Volunteer for Hope Organization visited a piece of Palestinian land in Beit Hanina, north of Jerusalem, under the slogan “We will remain as long as thyme and olive trees endure.” The event saw the participation of 450 students from Dar Al-Hekma School.
The event was attended by Dr. Nasser Qatami, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Arab Funds; Ms. Sylvia Abu Luban, Chair of the Organization’s Board; Media Vice President Ahmad Jalajel; and several prominent community figures from Jerusalem. Activities spanned three days, introducing students to the significance of the olive tree, the benefits of its oil, and its symbolic role in Palestinian heritage. The event featured a range of activities aimed at achieving the organization’s goals, creating an atmosphere of joy and learning.
At the end of the third day, students and community members enjoyed a traditional breakfast featuring olive oil, thyme, and local olives, receiving praise from families. The event also included traditional singing and face painting, adding joy to the celebration and fostering a sense of national pride among participants.
This initiative reflects Volunteer for Hope Organization’s commitment to supporting the cohesion of Jerusalem’s community and strengthening the sense of belonging among children and youth through events that combine education with entertainment, instilling in them a love for the land and connection to Palestinian identity.
